It’s novel with the main themes of polyamory, sexual liberation and passion for music.  The story explores the polyamorous relationship between the protagonist and narrator, Karen Moan, and her two DJ friends, Fran and Leo.

In her teens Karen discovers that she loves both and feels guilt, shame and fear mainly because of social prejudices.  The novel develops through Karen’s processing of these emotions, her eventual acceptance of herself and her sexuality, and her love for both men. The story moves form back and forth in time and plots the threesome’s route through adolescence, their first sexual encounter and the establishment of their own relationship model.  It deals with how the stability of the trio is threatened by another woman, the exhaustion of trying to keep the relationship secret and how a lack of communication can shake any relationship. A key moment in the story is when they come into contact with the Kinkers, a group of friends who promote a positive view of unconventional sex and relationships by organizing lectures, workshops and private parties.

There is much, much more to this novel, for example, The Moan Atelier; a real project where activities such as the sale/rental of raunchy party clothes and an erotic-photo studio are explored.  The Moan Club, including The Moan Atelier among other business ventures, would host workshops and talks on sexuality, personal growth, relationship communication and dealing with jealousy will be regular events.

And, of course, there’s always the music which plays a major role in their lives.  So, every couple of pages the title of a song appears which can be heard via a public list on Spotify.
